Matrix441 production win top award at AI.motion Festival in Milan for groundbreaking AI-driven music video
The AI.motion Festival, a film and audiovisual arts event dedicated to artificial intelligence, concluded in Milan on October 13, 2024. Hosted at IULM University, the festival explored new aesthetics shaped by generative algorithms and provided a platform for discussions on AI’s impact on the audiovisual arts. The festival culminated in the presentation of awards for Best Music Video, Best Film, and Best Commercial.
The award for Best Music Video was given to IN/SEKT, a production by Slovenian audiovisual artists Simon Šerc and Martina Testen. The jury, which included professor and essayist Simone Arcagni, art historian and internet culture expert Valentina Tanni, and film critics Fiaba Di Martino and Luca Pacilio, praised the Slovenian artists for their innovative use of artificial intelligence to explore the connections between technology and biotechnology.
Simon and Martina’s work expanded the audience’s imagination by intertwining images of insects with technological signals, seamlessly merging nature with technology. This fusion not only highlights the subjective nature of time perception but also underscores how technology, with its pervasive presence, reshapes our understanding of time and space. Martina and Simon continue to explore the possibilities AI brings to storytelling, particularly in bridging the organic and digital realms. This is the second award for IN/SEKT. In June, the production won at the GAMFF International Film Festival in South Korea.
Simon Šerc and Martina Testen are internationally recognized audiovisual creators with extensive experience. Their works have been featured at numerous international festivals and in prestigious media outlets such as The Guardian, BBC, and The Wire. Their sound albums have also been ranked among the best in field recording.
